The Black Keys – El Camino

The Black Keys is a rock band associated with the comeback of rock music! El Camino is their seventh studio album released in the year 2011 on Nonesuch Records. El Camino draws inspiration from popular genres of 1950’s and 1960’s such as glam rock, rock and roll, surf rock and soul and rockabilly, this is kind of new as their usual emphasis is on blues like they have in their earlier records. El Camino is an uptempo, and employs more hooks and guitar riffs, bringing us back to the era of Rock-and-Roll. The Black Keys approached writing and recording differently for El Camino compared to the previous albums, as they entered the studio without having written any material and deliberated longer on how to structure songs. This album has been recorded in an unusual way because there was no written material and most of the time was consumed in how to structure the songs. This is again something that The Black Keys don’t usually do. This made El Camino sound fresh and different from the rest of the records by the Black Keys.

El Camino won the award for ‘the best rock album’ at the 55h annual grammy awards and was one of the best sellers. ‘The Lonely Boy’ which received honours for the best rock performance and best rock song is worth listening to over a turntable! In France, Ireland,the United Kingdom and in the US the album was certified platinum. In Australia, Canada, and New Zealand it was certified multi-platinum.As far as the sales is concerned the statistics of US alone points at the huge commercial success El Camino received. In the first week itself 206,000 copies were sold and by the second week nearly 293,000 copies were sold. As of now the album has almost sold about 2 million copies in US alone and staggeringly high worldwide.
