Black comedy drama written and directed by Todd Solondz which explores the isolation and alienation of three sisters and their families and neighbours in the New Jersey suburbs. Trish (Cynthia Stevenson) is married to Bill (Dylan Baker), a man with a terrible secret which cannot stay hidden forever. Her sister Helen (Lara Flynn Boyle) is receiving obscene phone calls from her neighbour Allen (Philip Seymour Hoffman) but when she rejects him, he turns his attention to Kristina (Camryn Manheim), a woman harbouring a grisly secret of her own.
Meanwhile Joy (Jane Adams), the youngest sister, searches unsuccessfully for meaning in her life as their parents separate after 40 years of marriage.
