The Ortofon 2M 78 is a dedicated Moving Magnet cartridge developed specifically for playback of 78 RPM shellac records. Designed for authentic mono reproduction, it features a spherical diamond stylus optimized for the wider groove profile found on vintage shellac recordings.
Using a strapped mono output configuration, the 2M 78 delivers identical output from both channels, allowing true mono playback through standard stereo systems without requiring dedicated mono equipment.
