The SME Model 30/12 Mk2 Diamond is the ultimate evolution of SME's acclaimed Model 30 platform, combining exceptional mass, precision engineering and advanced resonance control with the distinctive Diamond Series finish. This configuration is fitted with the SME Series V-12 12-inch tonearm, providing a highly refined analogue playback platform designed for precise and stable vinyl reproduction.
The Diamond Series version is machine-finished to emphasise the precise geometry and sharp lines of the Model 30 platform. Hand-finished detailing and contrasting black-chrome elements give the turntable its distinctive Diamond Series appearance while retaining the core engineering of the Model 30/12.
The chassis and sub-chassis are CNC machined from premium-grade aluminium billet and acoustically treated. The substantial 12-inch platform provides increased mass and density, while the stiffened sub-chassis is designed to resist flexing and control mechanical energy.
The suspended sub-chassis houses the main bearing, platter and tonearm and is supported by 60 purpose-made suspension rings. Four fluid dampers positioned within the suspension columns control sub-chassis movement and help dissipate unwanted mechanical energy. All four feet are fully adjustable and mechanically de-coupled from the main chassis.
The platter is machined from aluminium alloy and weighs 7.5 kg. Measuring 330 mm in diameter, it is extensionally damped and features an Iso-Damp surface with a diamond-turned finish. The main spindle is precision machined from high-chrome tool steel and supported in a sealed bearing housing with individually fitted sintered-bronze bearings.
The SME Series V-12 is the dedicated 12-inch tonearm for the Model 30/12 platform. Its longer geometry provides advantages in managing angular tracking error across the record. The tonearm is supplied with Crystal Cable internal wiring and is available with contrasting Gold or Silver printed detail.
The Model 30/12 Mk2 uses a custom-made bi-phase AC synchronous motor controlled by a dedicated Speed Control Unit. The motor is designed for precise speed stability and exceptionally quiet operation.
The dedicated Speed Control Unit uses a DSP engine to generate two independent precision sine waves controlling motor frequency, phase relationship and amplitude. Independent memory settings are provided for 33.33 and 45 RPM, with fine speed adjustment in ±0.01% increments.
An independent mains Power Unit houses the transformer separately from the Speed Control Unit and away from the turntable's sensitive audio signal cables.
The turntable provides flexible analogue system integration through chassis-mounted RCA or XLR connectors. A separate external phono stage is required for connection to an amplifier or preamplifier.
