Gulon Mein Rang Bhare:
Originally sung by the legendary Mehdi Hassan, this piece is a plea from Faiz, written in the cold walls of Sindh’s Central Jail, asking the world not to let his spirit fade. Mehdi Hassan’s voice carries that desperation like a secret between friends, but the newer renditions; such as the one sung by Arijit Singh in Haider, brings out different shades of the same emotion.
Aaj Bazaar Mein:
During an escorted trip from jail to a dentist, Faiz found himself surrounded by people who recognized him—the poet who voiced their struggles, daring to speak when others could not. Aaj Bazaar Mein captures the emotion he felt in that moment.
Nayyara Noor’s voice was the first to carry this rallying cry. In contemporary music, Ali Sethi and Shae Gill have given it new life by singing their renditions of this iconic poem.
