That anonymity made Ghostface even scarier, emphasizing that the true terror wasn’t the mask itself but the person underneath.
While the mask may have come from humble origins, it draws on some highbrow influences. In addition to Edvard Munch’s painting, the designers at Fun World also took inspiration from the creepy, ghostly figures seen in 1930s Betty Boop cartoons, as well as the eerie, distorted faces from Pink Floyd’s The Wall album cover.
