When Bappi Lahiri Made A Jingle To Welcome Mike Tyson To India

In September 2018, during his visit to Mumbai to promote the Kumite 1 League, Tyson was honored with a special jingle composed by renowned Indian musician Bappi Lahiri. The jingle, titled “Om Swagatam,” blended traditional Indian greetings with Lahiri’s signature disco style, offering Tyson a quintessential Bollywood welcome.
Lahiri expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It is such a strange coincidence. When Tyson will be in my India, I will be in his (country). If I would have been in Mumbai, I would have personally gifted him the jingle. It is a happy moment for our country that he is coming all the way to promote MMA and prepare fighters from our country. I think he deserves the warmest welcome so I could not think of anything else but Bollywood style music to greet him.”
Mohamedali Budhwani, Chairman and Managing Director of Kumite 1 League, appreciated Lahiri’s contribution, noting, “I was so humbled by Bappi Da’s childlike excitement and how gracefully and quickly he took out time to compose a jingle to welcome Mike Tyson.
The Kumite 1 League event, held at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) Dome in Mumbai, marked Tyson’s involvement in promoting MMA in India. The event was broadcast in India on Sony ESPN, Sony ESPN HD, and Sony Liv, reaching audiences in over 80 countries.
While Tyson’s recent clash with Jake Paul remains a hot topic, his visit to India in 2018 stands out as a memorable cultural crossover.
