The Eloga brand, founded in 1917 in Lengnau, Switzerland, originally built its reputation on traditional Swiss craftsmanship. However, its most disruptive moment came in 1969 following an acquisition by Fortis. Together, they developed the Eloga Flipper, the world's first functional Swiss watch featuring a plastic case. Made of high-grade Noryl, the Flipper was a technical marvel—a lightweight, modular diving watch water-resistant to 200 meters that predated the Swatch phenomenon by over a decade.
The brand's connection to the Olympics emerged during the early 1970s. While Eloga was never the official timekeeper of the Games, they released a specific "Olympic" edition of the Flipper. These models featured the "Olympic" designation on the dial and were designed to capture the global excitement surrounding the 1972 Munich Games. By combining the Flipper’s signature interchangeable colorful straps and bezels with a sports-inspired "Olympic" branding, Eloga positioned the watch as the ultimate accessory for the modern, active enthusiast. Today, these vintage "Olympic" Flippers are highly prized by collectors as artifacts of a period when Swiss watchmaking first embraced bold, pop-culture-driven marketing.
