Down By Law (1986) is a unique, offbeat cult classic from visionary filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. Set in the gritty underbelly of New Orleans, the film follows three unlikely cellmates: Zack (Tom Waits), a DJ wrongfully accused of a crime; Jack (John Lurie), a small-time pimp; and Roberto (Roberto Benigni), a quirky Italian tourist who barely speaks English. While Zack and Jack resent each other, Roberto’s eccentric and unbreakable spirit eventually unites them in an audacious escape plan.

Shot in stunning black and white by legendary cinematographer Robby Müller and featuring music from Lurie and Waits, Down By Law is a moody, poetic, and darkly comedic exploration of fate, friendship, and freedom.
