Rega has long championed the use of lightweight, rigid plinths in turntable design. Their innovative use of a lightweight particulate core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin laid the foundation for the original, iconic Planar range.
The latest Planar 3 builds on this legacy with a re-engineered acrylic laminated plinth, strengthened by a new double brace system placed precisely where added rigidity matters most—between the tonearm mount and the main bearing hub. This creates a “stressed beam” structure, significantly reducing unwanted resonances and energy absorption that distort playback. Unlike heavier designs, which can transfer motor or bearing noise to the record, Rega's lightweight design with reinforced bracing ensures cleaner, more accurate sound reproduction.
