Tell us your Vinyl Story
My earliest recollection seeing a vinyl player/vinyl was in a friends house when I was in high school. I still recall it was a JVC turntable, and the pride and joy my friends dad had while using the turntable left an impression on me.
Fast forward to the mid/late nineties, Bangalore exploded as the club capital of India and I was fortunate enough to have very close friends become DJs and with them I explored/learnt all things vinyl.
In 2006, I bought my own used turntable, from a friends contact, a Rotel RP850, unfortunately one of the feet was missing. That weekend was a dream come true for me of sorts, to finally own a vinyl player!.I got home and spent the next hour using my old comic books to make a makeshift foot to ensure the player was stable and then moving the speakers around the room to see where the music sounded best. My parents must have thought I was possessed by some crazy spirit.
The person I bought the turntable from gave me some assorted records, most of them warped and sounded bad, the only playable ones were the Beatles ones.
I spent the next few months saving up money and bought some decent quality vinyl from a distant relative, my collection grew from 3 to 8. Since then I've been blessed with generous friends and like minded enthusiast who've helped me grow my collection.
