How long have you been collecting records?
Since school days kind of 1985 if I can remember.
Tell us your Vinyl Story
"Well I was born in 1971 and grew up with my Dad blasting 45s in the 70s on his tube Amplifier. I was like 6 years old , if I can remember correctly.
Dad did part time sound system and to those parties he carried the HMV record player and me along too.
I loved to watch the way records turned round and round and the needle rode the groove. There after as my Dad started with listening to Cassettes, Vinyl was forgotten until I saw my best buddy from school playing the record player and vola, I removed dads HMV and the 45s. Mum bought me my first All in one system, a Videocon with a Turntable on the Top. Wow Bought Lps from Bandra road side, Fort road side and Chor bazar. Then later on I was lucky to buy a second hand Technics SL1600 a proper Record player and a proper Amplifier and Floor Speaker. Stylus was very difficult 😭 not available. I had to request/beg family from abroad. Vinyl was not available here in India so had to order from UK.
Simply Vinyl and Hard to find records. Those were difficult days. Got my second Technics SLQ3. Vinyl died and then came back but I never gave up the format. Was happy when Vinyl was was back. Was one of the few to buy the first released Lp Hindi Jootha Hi Sahi and bought every Lp that was released, even the most screwed up Tees Maar Khan just to support the Vinyl revival. I even supported the group buys on HifiVision where few guys got few Hindi Lps pressed as a group order. Was lucky to get a few priceless Lps that cannot be found. Today I have 3 Technics including the MK2, Garrard 2025T gifted by father-in-law and the Garrard 301 which I spend more than a Lac to revive. Almost endless Phono preamp and finally settled with the Mani 2. Nad 356 and Cambridge CXA81. The journey was nice. Finally in 2024 the cost of Lps are too expensive that I have stopped buying and moved to Tidal MQA. Imagine Veer Zaar I bought for 4k it is now like 30 k.That's my Vinyl journey. I will still buy Lps but very few as it's too expensive. The revival had made Lps costly. It should be the other way round demand and more Lps made and cheaper."

Which is the most valuable record in your collection?
Well difficult to say. But few hard to find Classical. The limited edition from Simply Vinyl UK - Nirvana and George Michael Faith. I ordered from UK few Lps got lost by Indian post. Few Disco Records of the 90s as at that time Vinyl was dead very hard to find. Actually ordered few records from Hard to find records UK. Those are special to me as Lps were not available.
Tell us about your turntable setup.
2 Technics with Ortofon Concorde connected to a 4 way switch to a Shitt Mani 2 and to Cambridge CXA81

Any advice to people that are about to start their collection?
The pleasure of holding the record and enjoying the Vinyl art work. Watching the needle ride the groove and enjoy the Natural sound of the Lps. Wow.
