It began when I first listened to a record live. It was Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet in a cafe in my city. I knew from that moment it was a completely different experience and I realised I wanted to start listening to music consciously rather than just playing it in the background while I worked.

I have an Audio-Technica AP-LP60X turntable paired with Edifier R1700BT active speakers and an Audiocular D07 DAC to stream hi-res audio from my phone to the speakers.

I would say start small with an entry-level setup and 2 to 3 records you like. You do not need expensive equipment to enjoy music. Learn the basics of handling and maintaining records and tuning your setup if you can. A correctly tuned beginner setup will deliver better results than a poorly tuned expensive setup. And don't forget to enjoy the journey!
