How did you first get into collecting records?
"My record-collecting journey began long before I actually owned a record player.
Years ago, while scrolling Pinterest, I first noticed vinyl records. They looked cool but also felt completely out of reach. Vinyl wasn’t really a thing in India, and in my head, it was expensive, imported, and unrealistic. So it stayed a fascination. Something I admired from afar.
Then in 2022, Taylor Swift released Midnights with four vinyl variants. As a Swiftie, that changed everything. I didn’t just want the album; I wanted that format. That’s when I started researching what vinyl really was - how records work, what turntables to buy, whether people in India even collected vinyl, and how on earth you get one here.
By 2023, I finally started collecting for real. What began as a Pinterest obsession turned into something intentional. I wasn’t chasing trends or aesthetics; I wanted the ritual. Putting a record on, flipping it midway, listening without skipping. Owning music I love in a physical, tangible way."
What’s your turntable setup like?
"I use the Audio-Technica AT-LP60X. It is beginner-friendly and honestly perfect for someone collecting vinyl in India. . It lets me focus on the music instead of constantly fiddling with gear.
For sound, I use the Edifier RDB12BT speakers. They have Bluetooth support, which makes them versatile but when I’m spinning records, I always play them wired. The sound is clear and more than enough for my room.
It’s a real starter setup: reliable, good-sounding, and intentional. One that lets me enjoy my records."
What’s your best advice for people starting their vinyl journey?
If you’re thinking of starting a vinyl collection, my biggest advice is to slow down and be intentional. Don’t rush into buying a bunch of records just because they look cool online. Start with a decent turntable, because that honestly makes all the difference. Buy albums you genuinely love and would actually listen to front to back, not ones that just feel trendy. Also, be prepared for the fact that collecting vinyl in India is slow and a little expensive, and that’s part of the experience. Vinyl isn’t about flexing or aesthetics, it’s about the ritual of putting a record on and really listening. If that excites you, you’ll love collecting.
