How did you first get into collecting records?
I came across a vinyl record player for the very first time at my uncle’s home, and I still remember listening to countless Bollywood songs as a kid. Music has always been a big part of my life—right from childhood, it was my favorite hobby. Over time, I started collecting music cassettes and CDs, and that passion just kept growing. As the years went by, vinyl records saw a steep decline in usage. Digital formats began to dominate the music scene, replacing traditional mediums rapidly. Still, I made sure to preserve my collection of cassettes, CDs, and DVDs—they held too much sentimental value to let go. My connection with vinyl rekindled when I worked as a DJ in several pubs across Bangalore during early 2000s. That exposure brought me back to turntables, and I always dreamed of owning one someday. Eventually, I inherited my cousin’s vinyl collection and invested in an Audio-Technica turntable. I hooked it up to my speaker system and boom—the magic was back! Since then, I’ve been actively collecting and buying records. It gives me immense joy to own these pieces of musical art and history. Interestingly, my grandfather also had a gramophone, which is still in perfect working condition. I’m fortunate to own many of his 78 RPM records—each one a precious piece of history. Today, my collection has grown to nearly 100 albums—and counting.
