Description
Released in 1966, this is the fourth studio album by the legendary band ‘Rolling Stones’ and is considered to be the one that finally marked their incredible artistic breakthrough. After all, up until this time the band’s popularity had stemmed from their boy-band image instead of their music. To top it off, their songs were usually R&B and blues covers. Since there were only so many obscure songs they could use, something needed to change – and it did. ‘Aftermath’ was the first to feature a compilation of compositions penned down entirely be Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. But not just that, it also featured instruments that weren’t traditionally associated with their music such as the Indian Sitar, Japanese Koto, and many others!
Unlike their contemporaries, they experimented with their sounds in the studio, picking up a variety of instruments to see how they would work. Richards was writing a number of melodies, and the rest of the group was only too happy to experiment with it. But it was Brian Jones that gave them their unique sound as he tried out an incredible array of ethnic instruments in the process! All this hard work was not in vain, as the album was critically acclaimed world over. At the time of its release, it was already well received by the masses while in retrospect it has become as legendary as the band itself. Having made it’s way onto Robert Dimery’s ‘1001 Albums You Must Heard Before You Die’, no true fan of the Rolling Stones will be caught without it.
Since the album has secured a place within Rolling Stone magazine’s top 500 Albums of All Time, it is a must-have for every classic music lover. And the best part: Vinyl LP ‘Aftermath’ is now available in India at The Revolver Club vinyl record store in Mumbai – so for all those audiophiles out there, go ahead and buy the record online now!
