Since the USSR was interested in following communist ideals, they wanted to show that the disabled were well taken care of. The result is this unusual watch designed for the blind, where the front of the case opens via a pusher on the crown so you can feel the dial and hands directly. This is an unusually good-looking sample of this watch, because the deposit of oil from reading the time causes these dials to yellow with use.
The hands, instead of being thin slices of metal friction-fit to the canon pinion, are instead firmly attached so they can be touched over and over without simply falling off.
