Shaping How We Listen To Music: The Impact of MIDI Keyboards
·

·
MIDI keyboard, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface keyboard is a device that can send commands to a MIDI-equipped device. You must have seen producers punching pads, and playing keys and adjusting the wheels to produce the sound they want.
Interestingly enough, MIDI keyboards cannot produce sounds themselves! However, MIDI Keyboards are highly programmable, which means that it becomes an ideal instrument in studio and live performances.
It all started with Dave Smith realising that electronic devices had no way to communicate with each other or remain interconnected. There, Dave started approaching industry peers to standardize the process of communication, the first prototype of a MIDI compatible synthesizer called the Prophet-600.
Soon, Ikutaro Kakehashi, the founder of Roland, joined the revolution. Collaborating with Dave Smith to create MSQ-700 Sequencer, world's first MIDI Sequencer in 1983.

Roland's Prophet-600 was the first prototype of a MIDI Compatible Synthesizer. Today, MIDI keyboards are an essential part of a professional studio environment. Versatile, and totally programmable in nature, MIDI keyboards offer greater control when producing a sound.
