A Legend Unborn: How language was no barrier to Mohd. Rafi's genius
Rafi sang in English only twice. Those tracks still raise a question: why did the safest voice of Hindi cinema switch languages, and why did the recording later pick up a United Nations rumour?
In the late 1960s, Harindranath Chattopadhyay persuaded him to try English and wrote the lyrics. He coached Rafi line by line, because pronunciation would decide the result. Shankar Jaikishan composed and arranged the music, which kept the sound rooted in the Hindi film world.
The choice that creates tension is simple. The tunes were already famous. “Although We Hail from Different Lands” reused the composition of “Baharon Phool Barsao” from Suraj. “The She I Love” reused the composition of “Hum Kaale Hain Toh Kya Hua” from Gumnaam. Your memory recognises the melody first, then your brain notices the English.
This was not a single detour. Rafi recorded around 7,000 songs, and he moved across many Indian languages such as Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia, Assamese, Konkani, Bhojpuri, Sindhi, Magahi and Maithili. He also sang in foreign languages including Persian, Arabic, Sinhala, Mauritian Creole and Dutch. During a Mauritius visit in the late 1960s, he sang two songs in Mauritian Creole. In private work, he sang several songs on Chris Perry’s Konkani album Golden Hits with Lorna Cordeiro.
Rarity then produced the pivot. Posts claimed he sang the English song at the United Nations in 1970. Fact checks find no reliable historical record of a UN performance.
What stays true is more interesting than the rumour. He kept melodies that already carried emotion, then changed language when reach mattered. That choice forced precision, because a language switch exposes every weak syllable and every misplaced stress. The English songs prove the same discipline he used everywhere else: hold the tune steady, shape the words cleanly, and make the meaning land.

My name is Ellis Byrne, and I’m from Kent in the UK. I was one of several individuals who fell victim to a cyber scam that resulted in the loss of my crypto assets. In my case, I lost around £283K worth of Ethereum. It was an incredibly distressing experience, and at the time, I had little hope of ever recovering what I had lost.
Fortunately, things took a positive turn when I reached out to Morphohack Cyber Service, a wellknown cybersecurity and asset recovery company. From the outset, their team was highly supportive, professional, and reassuring during what was a very difficult period for me. They worked diligently to trace the movement of my funds and guide me through the recovery process step by step.
What makes my story particularly striking is just how hopeless the situation initially felt. Losing such a substantial amount of crypto was devastating, and I genuinely believed it was gone for good. However, with Morphohack’s expertise and persistence, I was able to recover a significant portion of my assets. I contacted Morphohack through their official email address at Morphohack@cyberservices.com

Hi viewers online, I’m Cindy from the US. I’m here to share my testimony about how I was helped to get my husband back. I was a cheat and my husband caught me several times. I tried fixing myself and each time I ended up cheating over and over again. I guess I didn’t realize what he meant to me until he had left me alone. I began to find a way to get him back but nothing seemed to work out perfectly until I came across an article about DR EDETANLEN who helped a lot of people globally to get their relationships back. I made contact with him and he assured me that my husband will come back to me within 48 hours with his powerful magic and I paid dollars for the materials needed for the work. Surprisingly, my husband came back home after 2 days saying that he still loves me and I swore never to cheat on him anymore. All thanks to DR EDETANLEN. I still can’t believe this is real, but I actually won the lottery jackpot! It feels like a dream come true. For years, I would occasionally play without expecting much, just hoping that one day luck would finally be on my side—and it finally happened when I came across a testimony on how Dr Benjamin the great spell caster had helped alot of people win, so I reached out to him, he told me what to do and I followed his instructions, after 48 hours he gave some numbers to play, I did played the numbers as instructed.
The moment I checked my numbers and realized they all matched, my heart started racing. I had to double-check multiple times because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Winning the Powerball jackpot of $107,000,000,00. This has completely changed my life. It’s given me financial freedom, peace of mind, and the opportunity to support my family and invest in my future. Here are his contact information.
