Above and Beyond: Anjunadeep returns to Goa for New Year's Eve!
On 31 December 2025, Anjunadeep Open Air returns to Goa at Thalassa Beach Resort, and the event note says it is “where Anjuna’s story first began” - so one question stays open: why does a London label still anchor its biggest moments to Goan beach?
Anjunadeep began in 2005 because Above and Beyond and their manager James Grant needed a home for deeper, more progressive club records. The wider Anjuna world already carried Goa in its name, because Anjunabeats took its identity from Anjuna beach in Goa.
In the early 1990s, parties around Anjuna helped push Goa trance into the wider world, so the beach became shorthand for a scene. That history gave the word Anjuna credibility, so the label had to match that feeling of travel and attention with every record.
Success then raised the stakes. The label says it has over 600 releases and a loyal global following, so listeners stay only if selection stays consistent. When streaming made “deep” a loose tag, Anjunadeep had to protect meaning by shaping habits, not chasing spikes. So compilations and long mixes became the label’s main tool.
That strategy became clear on February 16, 2009, when Anjunadeep 01 arrived as a mixed compilation on CD. A long mix teaches pacing, so tracks land as scenes with a beginning and an ending. The series kept building that rhythm, so fans could follow a sound through years of releases. The Anjunadeep Edition radio mixes added a weekly ritual, and James Grant and Jody Wisternoff often hosted them, so new music travelled with context.
Records later tightened the bond. In June 2025, Anjunadeep Essentials 01 put six tracks on coloured vinyl and the label limited it to 500 units worldwide, so digital favourites gained a new life on record.
The Anjuna25 Anniversary Vinyl Box Set spans 10 LPs and 84 tracks across Anjunabeats, Anjunadeep, and Anjunachill, and it includes a 48 page booklet with track by track notes, so the catalogue reads like a guided history.
Tonight, Anjunadeep Open Air lands back in the same coastline that gave the label family its name. Enjoy the new year’s eve with Anjunadeep playing all night!
