Afterlife: How Michael Jackson's publishing strategy outlived his career
Michael Jackson was once again named the world’s richest deceased celebrity in Forbes’ annual ranking, with reported earnings of over $100 million in the past year and an estate valued at approximately $3.5 billion. Fifteen years after his death, Jackson continues to earn more than any other deceased artist. The source of that wealth is largely structural. Jackson’s long-term earnings are driven by ownership of music publishing and rights management rather than album sales or touring revenue.
Jackson’s interest in publishing developed in the early 1980s through conversations with Paul McCartney, who spoke openly about the financial importance of songwriting ownership. McCartney himself did not own most of The Beatles’ catalog, despite being one of its principal writers. When ATV Music Publishing, which controlled the majority of Beatles compositions, was put up for sale in 1985, Jackson acquired it for $47.5 million, outbidding McCartney. The acquisition effectively ended their personal relationship.
The purchase altered Jackson’s financial position. Publishing ownership provided steady income through licensing, synchronisation, and royalties across films, advertising, and broadcast media. In 1995, Jackson merged ATV with Sony’s publishing division to form Sony/ATV, positioning himself as one of the largest individual stakeholders in global music publishing.
Following Jackson’s death in 2009, his estate faced significant financial pressure. Oversight was assumed by executors including entertainment lawyer John Branca. Under the estate’s management, debt was reduced, assets were reorganised, and commercial projects expanded, including MJ: The Musical and licensing agreements. In 2016, Sony acquired the Jackson estate’s stake in Sony/ATV for $750 million. Questions surrounding control of Jackson’s legacy surfaced in 2013 when Paris Jackson challenged the estate’s executors over governance and decision-making. The challenge was later withdrawn, but it drew attention to the complexities of managing artistic estates.
Jackson’s posthumous wealth shows how long-term value in music flows to ownership of rights rather than to the creators themselves.

THE BEST SECRET WAY TO WIN THE LOTTERY… I was researching how to improve my odds of winning the lottery when I came across numerous testimonials on a blog describing how Priest Alaska had helped others win by sending them the winning numbers. I was curious, and although I initially thought it was a joke, I decided to try it myself and contacted this spell specialist to understand how it worked, as I had spent a lot of money on tickets without ever winning a prize. I got in touch with him, followed his instructions, and waited two days; sure enough, he gave me the winning numbers to play. I bought my tickets, used the numbers Priest Alaska provided, and won the sum of 85 million dollars (USD 85,000,000). I want you to know that the tips found online don’t work for winning the lottery; Priest Alaska is the only solution. Contact him today to get the winning numbers. You can email him at alaskaspellcaster44@gmail.com or visit his website: https://dralaskaspellcaster.mystrikingly.com.

To win the lottery, one must first achieve a spiritual enlightenment centered on positivity. I consider myself fortunate to have won a staggering $167,300,000 jackpot after contacting a spell casting expert named Priest Alaska. He is incredibly sincere and honest in his work; he opened my eyes to the concept of spirituality. When I expressed my desire to win the Mega Millions, he informed me that winning that draw was not in my destiny; instead, I was destined to win the Powerball something I agreed with. After five days of intense spiritual work, I received the numbers from him and followed his instructions to play the Powerball; to my great surprise, I won the $167,300,000 jackpot. Beware of fraudulent spell casters who claim to be experts but actually know nothing. Priest Alaska is the best choice for obtaining winning lottery numbers. I never thought I would have a story about playing the lottery that was worth telling. I had been playing the lottery for a long time and buying tickets regularly, but had never won anything significant. Then I came across a testimonial from someone who claimed that Priest Alaska had helped them win the lottery. I was curious but also very skeptical. I decided to contact Priest Alaska to get to the bottom of it myself. After I explained my situation to him, he told me what to do and asked me to be patient. A few days later, he sent me some lottery numbers. I followed his instructions and decided to try my luck with those numbers. When the results were announced, I was completely shocked: I had hit a jackpot of $70,000,000. It was an incredible moment, especially after all those years of playing without any significant win. I am sharing this fictional testimonial for promotional purposes. Lottery games are based on chance, and no one can guarantee a win. I strongly encourage everyone to reach him for help via email: alaskaspellcaster44@gmail.com or Check out his website for more information: https://dralaskaspellcaster.mystrikingly.com
