Chronicle: How The Simla Beat Contest documented India's rock revolution
By the late 1960s, electric guitars, organ, drums and amplified bass had found their way into clubs, college halls and hotels across India. In Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Bangalore, Delhi and Shillong, young musicians were forming bands and building repertoires from the Western records they could find.
Then came the Simla Beat Contest.
Sponsored by the Imperial Tobacco Company’s Simla cigarette brand, the competition brought together young bands through regional rounds before the national finals in Bombay. Held at Shanmukhananda Hall, it gave musicians from across the country a rare national platform.
The 1970 edition produced Simla Beat 70, recorded in Calcutta. The LP captured a young Indian rock scene finding its own voice, combining Western covers with original compositions. The Dinosaurs, Great Bear, The Confusions and other groups brought beat, blues, rock and psychedelia into the studio, creating one of the earliest recorded snapshots of India’s emerging rock culture.
The following year, The Fentones from Shillong won the national contest. Their victory made them the first band from the Northeast to take the title. They appeared on Simla Beat 71, alongside bands including Hipnotic Eye, The Brood of Vipers and The Dinosaurs.
The contest continued until 1972, when Frustrations Amalgamated from Madras won the final edition. They recorded at Royal Gems Studio, but their material was never released.
The end came as quietly as it had begun. The contest was closely tied to the Simla cigarette brand, and when the brand disappeared from the market, so did the competition.
What remained were two remarkable LPs documenting a generation of Indian musicians experimenting with rock on their own terms. Today, Simla Beat 70 and Simla Beat 71 are both sought after by music enthusiasts, for preserving a rare chapter in India’s early rock history.
The Simla Beat 70 LP (reissue) is available for purchase at The Revolver Club.

It is hard to find true spell casting specialists, but I am pleased to thank Priest Alaska for helping me win the lottery; after trying many others, I found happiness thanks to him. He provided the winning numbers that made me the third-largest lottery winner in history, and I owe it all to him. Winning the lottery is an experience we would all love to have, especially with the help of a trusted spell casting specialist. I won the Powerball jackpot in Los Angeles and am deeply grateful to Priest Alaska; after contacting him, he told me I simply needed to provide the spiritual elements required for the work, and I did not hesitate to supply them to secure the win. I had turned to other specialists who seemed genuine, but only Priest Alaska’s numbers brought me victory. I won the Powerball jackpot valued at $1.08 billion and today I share my experience with others who also wish to win the lottery. Seize the opportunity to contact Priest Alaska (Priest Alaska Spiritual) via email at alaskaspellcaster44@gmail.com and share your own experience with others as well.

THE BEST SECRET WAY TO WIN THE LOTTERY… I was researching how to improve my odds of winning the lottery when I came across numerous testimonials on a blog describing how Priest Alaska had helped others win by sending them the winning numbers. I was curious, and although I initially thought it was a joke, I decided to try it myself and contacted this spell specialist to understand how it worked, as I had spent a lot of money on tickets without ever winning a prize. I got in touch with him, followed his instructions, and waited two days; sure enough, he gave me the winning numbers to play. I bought my tickets, used the numbers Priest Alaska provided, and won the sum of 85 million dollars (USD 85,000,000). I want you to know that the tips found online don’t work for winning the lottery; Priest Alaska is the only solution. Contact him today to get the winning numbers. There was a time when I thought my marriage would end in silence and regret. The distance between us kept growing, and every attempt to fix things only led to more arguments. I felt emotionally drained and ready to give up. Finding Dr. Alaska became a turning point for me. Instead of judgment, I received understanding. Instead of fear, I found hope. Through his guidance and reassurance, the atmosphere in my home gradually improved. My partner reached out, our conversations became calm and meaningful again, and the love we once shared began to grow stronger. Today, we are not just back together we are stronger, wiser, and more connected than before. I am deeply thankful for this second chance and the peace that has been restored in my marriage. I wish the best of luck to everyone reading this comment! Last year, I filed for bankruptcy after several business failures. I used to play the lottery just for fun, but as my financial situation worsened, I sought help to win a major prize; that was when I found a man named Priest Alaska, who has helped countless people around the world with their financial troubles. He cast a powerful spell for me that revealed secret lucky numbers. I played those numbers and, to my surprise, discovered I had won the $209.3 million Powerball jackpot after just 7 months and 14 days exactly as he had predicted. Today, I am debt-free and have various investments around the world. Without Priest Alaska, I would not have overcome the hardships I faced last year. Priest Alaska is truly a divine presence among us. If you are currently facing difficulties in any aspect of your life, contact Priest Alaska using the information below.

Winning a multi million dollar lotto is a life changing event for almost any winner. My name is Billy Hansell from Chicopee, Massachusetts, and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how I became the famous winner of the $758 million (£591 million) Powerball jackpot. I know many people wonder how I secured this lottery win. Would you believe me if I told you I did it with the help of a spell? I met a famous spell caster named Priest Alaska, and he was the one who made it happen for me. As surprising as it was even to me my famous comment to the press was, “I’m going to go crawl into bed now” I never imagined that Priest Alaska would make me rich overnight. If you, too, want to seize the chance to win big and achieve great wealth just as I did then contact Priest Alaska via email at alaskaspellcaster44@gmail.com or learn more about Priest Alaska on his website: https://dralaskaspellcaster.mystrikingly.com Fortune will smile upon you, too.
