Faiz Ahmed Faiz—how do you even begin to describe him? He was that rare poet who made romance sound like revolution, and revolution feel like poetry. Gulon Mein Rang Bhare:
Originally sung by the legendary Mehdi Hassan, this piece is a plea from Faiz, written in the cold walls of Sindh’s Central Jail, asking the world not to let his spirit fade. Mehdi Hassan’s voice carries that desperation like a secret between friends, but the newer renditions; such as the one sung by Arijit Singh in Haider, brings out different shades of the same emotion.
Aaj Bazaar Mein:
