Between 1969 and 1974, Khanna delivered hit after hit, reaching a level of fame unseen before. In nearly all those films, it was Kishore’s voice—romantic, melancholic, and mischievous—that carried the emotion.
Across 92 films, Kishore sang over 245 songs for Khanna. When Aradhana (1969) was released, Kishore had been absent from the mainstream, edged out by Mohd. Rafi. But music director S.D. Burman insisted on bringing Kishore back.
Soon after, “Mere Sapno Ki Rani” became a national obsession. Khanna, a relatively new face, appeared to the country as someone who sounded like their everyman fantasy.
