Major artists are selling catalogues to publishers and private equity, turning songs into reliable, yield-generating assets backed by insurance capital. As ’90s tracks resurface on Instagram reels and spark new streaming spikes, nostalgia becomes recurring revenue.
This is why the catalogue sale lands differently. Sources put the deal at around $200 million, reportedly covering defining hits like “…Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did It Again,” and “Toxic.” Beyond the number, it shifts the balance. After years where other people had leverage over her finances, a lump sum like this strengthens her personal position on her own terms, with fewer doors left open for others to push through.
