Vinyl Sales Surpass CDs For The First Time Since 1987, Thanks To "Midnights" by Taylor Swift

For the first time since the 1980s, when artists like Rick Astley, T'Pau, and Pet Shop Boys topped the charts, Taylor Swift's devout followers have helped vinyl record sales to surpass CD sales.
Swift’s loyal fanbase, popularly known as the “swifties” has successfully made her latest album “Midnights” the biggest-selling album of 2022 in just one day of its release.
Not only is ‘Midnights’ the highest-selling vinyl release in more than three decades but is the highest-selling vinyl album of the 21st century overall.
In an Instagram video shared before the album's release, Swift said the 10th album was "a trip through terrors and wonderful dreams" and that it was "the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life."
Taylor Swift released the "Midnights" record across five colour-coded editions - Moonstone Blue, Mahogany, Blood Moon Marble, and Jade Green selling over 9,45,000 copies in the first week, surpassing the previously held record of 4,80,000 by Harry Styles.
Ironically, according to Luminate's Year End Music Report, only half of the fans purchasing records actually own a record player. "Midnights" is proof that vinyl records are still popular today and will be for a long time to come.
