What are your favourite genres of Music and your all-time favourite musician?
My favourite genre is Heavy Metal and my favourite band is Black Sabbath.
How long have you been selling records?
I have been doing this for 5 years now.
How and why did you get into record business?
I have been a fan of the music for the last 30+ years. It was my passion for the music and over time I realised that the music stores in Bangalore were shutting down. There were no avenues for people to buy music, anywhere. A place where people could look and browse for vinyl and that is how I started my store. I sell both CDs and vinyl.
What types of records do you keep?
I exclusively stock Classic Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal only.
Have you felt the revival of Vinyl?
In India, it is still very minuscule. Unlike abroad, even though at a certain stage, after 80s vinyl died there was a small set of people who were still keeping it alive and vinyl being bought and sold, and now over time, in the last 10-15 years after the revival has happened it has really cashed in and become a big thing. In India the cost factor is huge not everybody wants to buy vinyl, they still have this mindset that they can get music for free, online.There are not many people who have the dedication to spend that much money on vinyl. India has a small market so there are only a few who still believe in pristine music and still believe in buying pristine copies. Nobody is doing it because they know the music and want to sell that music.
Tell us a little about your clientele, and How have they changed over the years and Do you get young clients?
Generally, it’s a variety of age groups. Young people from the age of 25 but I have customers who are 65-70 also.
