Want Your Song In EA FC? Here's How Artists Make The Cut

Video game soundtracks have introduced us to great music; whether it’s tearing through the streets in NFS, causing chaos in GTA, or scoring goals in FIFA; each of these games has played a part in helping us discover new artists.
As Femi Koleoso from Ezra Collective puts it, “For most musicians, it’s not the Grammys or Oscars we dream about—it’s getting a track on Fifa.” And he’s right. The game’s soundtrack has become a launchpad for artists aiming to reach a global audience.
Each year, about 100 tracks make the cut, chosen from an endless sea of hopefuls. So, how do they decide which songs get a spot in the world’s favorite football game? Steve Schnur, EA’s president of music, gave the BBC a rare peek behind the scenes. “We go through thousands and thousands of songs,” he explains. In the early days, Schnur was a man on a mission, scouring the globe for fresh talent. But now, as he says with a humble flex, “Everybody wants to be in EA FC, so they come to us.”
However, the selection process isn’t just about picking the coolest artists—it’s about the players. “Ultimately, my boss is the player,” Schnur says. “The person who bought the game is who I’m making these choices for.” The song has to hit the right vibe, though there’s no strict genre rule. And even if a track doesn’t make the final list, it might still have that recognizable “EA FC sound”
For lesser-known artists, getting noticed by EA is a lot of hustle. Schnur shared a story about recently discovering a young band from Yorkshire online. When he reached out, they thought it was a prank. “There’s nothing better than reaching out to a band and saying, ‘Hey, I want to put you in the game this year,’” he says.
One of the latest bands to join the EA FC 25 lineup is Good Neighbours, a British duo made up of Oli Fox and Scott Verill. “It’s unreal,” says Scott. “I’ve been playing Fifa since I was a kid, and I’ve always discovered new bands through it.”
For Oli, the EA connection is personal—his brother Morgan Fox, a QPR footballer, has been in the game since 2013. “I’ve been jealous for years,” Oli jokes. “Now we might both be in the same game, and our parents couldn’t be prouder.”
