We Are Rewind Takes Tape Into The 21st Century

Technology typically ages poorly, and there is nearly always a contemporary substitute that would do the job better and with less hassle.
As seen by the ongoing vinyl revival, turntables are the newest must-have items for home décor. Even CDs are becoming more and more common, but companies like We Are Rewind are helping the good ol' cassette tape gain the most attraction with customers and musicians alike.
We Are Rewind's founder, Romain Boudruche, aimed to revive the classic portable tape player. The device bears striking resemblance to the greatest past instances of the category, most notably Sony's legendary Walkman line, and in especially the iconic Walkman Professional and the cult-favorite stylings of the yellow Sports Walkman series.
Everything is simple and geometric; there are no gizmos like auto-reverse or graphic equalisers, let alone a Dolby switch. With the addition of Bluetooth (in addition to a traditional headphone jack) and a built-in rechargeable battery rather than the typical "AA" or "AAA" cells, We Are Rewind has made several adjustments to meet modern expectations. Lastly, the Cassette Player offers up the ultimate functionality – the ability to record from an external source.
Philips invented the first compact cassette way back in the early 1960s; the format recently celebrated 60 years. Will the cassette's comeback reveal that mixtapes represent so much more than playlists?
