Burmah Shell: The Oil Company For Which Mohammed Rafi Gave His Voice

There is no doubt that Mohammad Rafi was one of the most versatile and accomplished singers in India. Having sung everything from Bhajans to Qawaalis to Bollywood, the legend has done it all.
He even made a song for the Burmah Shell oil company called “Mitti ka Tel” a rare gem that very few people have heard of.

Burmah Shell was a pioneer in the oil business, being one of the first corporations to bring kerosene into the country.

Released in the 1950s when advertising was only possible through radio, Rafi Sahab brought the same vigour, emotion, and soul to the ad that he brings in every patriotic song of his, like "Ae Watan Ae Watan" and "Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawanon Ka" proudly proclaiming that Burmah Shell is used in every village and every city in India.

Mitti Ka Tel has definitely stood the test of time. It is still loved by his fans, shared numerous times on social media, and is able to evoke the same emotions that some of his best patriotic songs do.
