How Pasoori Reinvented Coke Studio

Coke Studio is a rare phenomenon that is not only the ultimate platform for artists to showcase their talent but also a celebration of hope and diversity. While the country has come to love and adore the classic songs and musical performances on different platforms, Coke Studio is the one that has captured the attention of the entire world.
It all began when Ali Sethi read the words “Aag Lavaan Teri Majbooriyan Nu" (set fire to your worries and compulsions) on the back of a truck while travelling from Faisalabad to Lahore. He was so moved by these words that he knew he would use them in a song at some point, which led him to come up with the iconic line which we are all familiar with today “Aan Jaan Di Pasoori Nu” (the crisis of coming and going).
Determined to finish the song he sent the initial tune as a voice note to composer and Coke Studio producer Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan who also discovered Shae Gill through her covers of popular songs on Instagram and invited her to sing on the song for Coke Studio. The rest as they say is history.
Needless to say, Pasoori was a massive success. The song garnered 10 million views in 10 days on YouTube, making it one of the most viewed songs of Coke Studio of all time with a whopping 500 million views, while also topping Spotify's "Viral 50 - Global" chart and becoming the most searched song on Google.
Ali Sethi and Shae Gill have ushered in a new era of Coke studio, blending together folk, pop, and classical music to not only create soulful melodies that soothe the soul but also rocking party anthems that make the entire nation dance.
"Coke Studio Bharat" has collaborated with more than 50 artists from all over the nation, including Prabh Deep, Seedhe Maut, Donn Bhat, Rashmeet Kaur and more, curated by singer-songwriter Ankur Tewari.
Gen Z is leading a revolution in the Indian music industry. The youth is looking for authenticity, freedom of expression, and an openness to embracing distinctive music.
