As Magnetic Fields Festival gears up for its 10th anniversary this December, it’s the perfect time to look back at how this remarkable event has reshaped the music scene in India. Born in the heart of Rajasthan in December 2013, Magnetic Fields has blossomed into a must-visit gathering for music and cultural enthusiasts.
The festival kicked off with a vision to create something immersive, set against the stunning Alsisar Mahal. In its first year, it attracted around 500 attendees, many of whom have become ardent Fielders, dancing to an eclectic mix of sounds. The inaugural edition featured legendary acts like Charanjit Singh, followed by dubstep don Mala in 2014 and Khruangbin in 2017.
In the years that followed, whispers of Magnetic Fields spread beyond India’s borders, drawing in a larger, more diverse crowd. Interactive art installations, secret late-night performances, and experimental pop-up events became as crucial as the headlining acts themselves.
After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, the festival returned to Alsisar in 2022, rekindling its desert oasis magic. Global and local talent continued to thrive, with DJs like Four Tet and Ben UFO in 2022, and Glass Beams in 2023.
Now, as we look ahead to the 10th-anniversary edition in December 2024, expectations are high. The lineup promises hypnotic beats from Nicola Cruz, Sofia Kourtesis, and genre-bending acts like Shubh Saran and Cousin Kula. A five-hour DJ set by Midland, the live debut of Sublime Sound, and a 20-year Hyperdub showcase with Kode9 are just a few gems awaiting festival-goers.
As always, ticketing is tiered, offering general entry and luxury camping options. Every edition of Magnetic Fields continues to be a journey into art, culture, and collaboration, crafted for its devoted community.
